ภาวะแทรกซ้อน ที่อาจเกิดขึ้นกับทารกในการใส่หน้ากากคลุมหน้า หรือหน้ากากอนามัย
- ทารกแรกเกิด หายใจทางจมูกเป็นหลัก ยังไม่สามารถใช้ปาก เพื่อช่วยหายใจได้ เมื่อมีการขาดอากาศ หรือ ออกซิเจน ดังนั้นวัสดุต่าง ๆ ที่นำมาผลิตเป็นหน้ากาก หากมีคุณสมบัติในการต้านต่อการไหลของอากาศเข้า – ออก สูงเกินไป อาจทำให้ทารกหายใจได้ไม่เพียงพอ และมีโอกาสเกิดการสะสมของก๊าซคาร์บอนไดออกไซด์ได้ ซึ่งก่อให้เกิดอันตรายต่อระบบประสาทของทารก

เด็กทารกแรกเกิดไปจนถึง 1 ปี พ่อแม่ไม่ควรสวมหน้ากากให้ เพราะเด็กเล็กระบบการหายใจยังไม่แข็งแรงพอ เสี่ยงภาวะคาร์บอนไดออกไซด์คั่งได้ และในกรณีการใช้วัสดุพลาสติกบังหน้าทารก ความคมของพลาสติกอาจทำให้บาดใบหน้า และดวงตาของทารกได้
เด็กอายุ 1 – 2 ปี เด็กบางคน สามารถถอดหน้ากากเองได้เมื่อรู้สึกอึดอัดหากจำเป็นต้องใส่หน้ากากควรใช้ด้วยความระมัดระวัง และใส่เพียงระยะเวลาสั้นที่สุด
เด็กอายุมากกว่า 2 ปี สวมใส่หน้ากากอนามัยเองได้ สามารถถอดหน้ากากออกได้เมื่อรู้สึกอึดอัด ยกเว้นเด็กที่มีกล้ามเนื้ออ่อนแรง หรือเด็กที่มีความบกพร่องทางสมองพ่อแม่ควรให้ความระมัดระวังเป็นพิเศษ
หน้ากากสำหรับเด็ก แนะนำเป็น “หน้ากากผ้า” และใส่เฉพาะช่วงที่ต้องออกไปในพื้นที่สาธารณะ ที่มีคนอยู่เป็นจำนวนมาก โดยหน้ากากผ้า สามารถทำได้เองง่าย ๆ จากเศษผ้าสะอาด ๆ ภายในบ้าน
เคล็ดลับสอนเด็กสวมหน้ากากอนามัย
- ใส่ให้ดูเป็นตัวอย่าง ในวัยเด็กสักประมาณ 1 ขวบขึ้นไป มักชอบเลียนแบบพฤติกรรมพ่อแม่ พ่อแม่จึงควรปลูกฝังพฤติกรรมสวมหน้ากากอนามัยก่อนออกจากบ้านให้กับลูกน้อย ทั้งนี้ ก็เพื่อสร้างนิสัยสุขอนามัยที่ดี
- ใส่ให้กับของเล่นชิ้นโปรด กรณีลูกน้อยไม่ยอมใส่หน้ากากก่อนออกจากบ้าน คุณพ่อ คุณแม่ อาจใช้วิธีลองสวมหน้ากากอนามัยให้กับของเล่น หรือตุ๊กตา ตัวโปรดดูเพื่อดึงดูดความสนใจให้เด็ก ๆ อยากมีเพื่อนสวมหน้ากากอนามัยไปด้วยกัน
- ชมเชย และให้รางวัล หากครั้งแรกลูกไม่ยอมใส่ไม่ควรดุว่า ลองเริ่มใหม่อีกครั้ง เมื่อหนูน้อยยอมสวมหน้ากากแต่โดยดี ผู้ปกครองควรชมด้วยคำพูด หรือให้ของรางวัลเพื่อเป็นการกระตุ้น ให้พวกเขาอยากสวมในครั้งต่อ ๆ ไป
